James L. Bothwell
Partner

James Bothwell's practice is primarily focused on complex construction, real estate, general liability, insurance, and business litigation. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2006 and his Juris Doctorate, with distinction, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2009. Following law school, Mr. Bothwell clerked for the Hon. Frank Damrell in the United States District Court, Eastern District of California.

 

Mr. Bothwell represents several of the nation's largest, publicly-traded builders and insurance carriers in a variety of construction, casualty, environmental, and real estate-related disputes. In addition to his litigation experience, he is a member of the Building Industry Association and the Construction Law Section of the Sacramento County Bar Association.

Representative Matters

  • Mr. Bothwell, Mr, Huguenin, and Mr. Kahn prevailed at trial in a complex land dispute venued in San Diego County. The Firm secured a $6.1 million judgment in favor of the firm’s client with a right to seek an additional $1 million in attorney fees and costs.

  • Mr. Bothwell has participated in several arbitrations in which the firm was able to secure defense verdicts for its clients.

  • Mr. Bothwell has obtained dismissals and summary judgment in complex construction defect cases where the firm's clients faced potential exposure of millions of dollars.

  • Mr. Bothwell has obtained seven-figure settlements of claims asserted against government and municipal entities.

  • Mr. Bothwell has has handled several matters before appellate courts.
